About the Journal

About the Journal

Branna Journal of Engineering and Technology (BJET) is established in September 2017 at Ethiopian Institute of Technology-Mekelle (EiT-M), Mekelle University to publish qualified articles biannually. The name Branna is given to this journal in praise of the ancient Ethiopian civilization in the area of literature.  Ancient Ethiopians used to write their literatures on a parchment referred to us “Branna”, hence the name to this journal. BJIT is a multidisciplinary platform that aims to publish quality research and innovation outcomes in the areas of engineering and technology. Since reputability and wide acceptance among researchers is the main concern of the journal, only articles with impactful results and well discussed in a way that is easily understandable to the wide readership are considered for publication.

Scope of the Journal

This journal provides an international forum for rapid publication of work describing the practical application of engineering analysis and methods in all branches of engineering and technology. Not only this, the journal invites contributions of original and novel fundamental research. The journal aims to provide an international forum for the presentation of original fundamental research, interpretative reviews and discussion of new developments in multidisciplinary branches of engineering and technology. Papers which describe novel theory and its application to practice are welcome, as are those which illustrate the transfer of techniques from other disciplines. Reports of carefully executed experimental work, which is soundly interpreted, are also welcome. The overall focus is on original and rigorous research results which have generic significance. The journal publishes original papers including but not limited to the following fields:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Computational Robotics

General information and publication policy

The manuscript submitted for publication to the journal should be the author’s original work and should not have been published previously and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. All the papers will be peer reviewed and the editorial board reserves the right to refuse any manuscript, whether on invitation or otherwise, and to make suggestions and/or modifications before publication. The authors of manuscript accepted for publication must sign a copyright transfer form. Manuscripts which have been accepted become the property of the publisher, the Ethiopian Institute of Technology-Mekelle, Mekelle University.

Peer Review

The reviewing process will be carried out in systematic manner and take proper precautions to avoid bias, malpractices and poor reviewing. The process may take up to maximum of six months. For originality, relevance and presentation, full double-blind refereeing process is followed in which the manuscripts  are sent to two-three experts for review and same reviewers shall handle particular papers requiring changes to ensure that quality of the paper is acceptable. The Editor-in-Chief communicates the outcome of the review processes such as acceptance, details of the modifications required or rejection to the authors. The author(s) are expected to address the comments of the experts and make the modifications suggested by them. In case of disagreement between the author and referees, or between the referees themselves, the decision of Editor-in-Chief is final.

Timeliness of the Publication Process

The journal is a double-blind peer reviewed to publish two issues per annum for an international readership. The journal covers a wide range of research disciplines, including Engineering and Technology.  It shall publish original research articles. The double-blind peer review process for any manuscript shall be decided and amended by the editor-in-chief and the associate editors. As an initial condition, the review process for the first and possible subsequent rounds of review shall not exceed 12 weeks. It is the duty of the associate editors and the administrative assistant of the journal to inform expected review submission deadlines and sending out gentle reminders for to-be-late reviews.

The journal will have annual editorial audits, which include the total number of manuscripts submitted, acceptance rates of solicited and unsolicited manuscripts, and the average manuscript turnaround time. It is necessary to follow the practice of listing the dates of manuscript receipt and acceptance as part of the published article. This information helps answer questions from readers and potential authors about how long it will take to see their manuscript in print. The editor’s responsibility for timeliness extends to providing prompt responses and decisions for all journal related activities, including responses to authors’ queries.
