About the Journal

The Journal of Dialogue on Migration Dynamics (JDMD) is a peer reviewed international academic journal published and hosted by the Center for Migration Studies (CMS), Institute of Population Studies, Mekelle University. The Journal publishes theoretical contributions as well as empirical research articles in the disciplines of migration dynamics (internal and international), the nexus between migration and development, internally displaced people, refugees, returnees reintegration, human trafficking and smuggling, drivers of migration, migration and urbanization and other contemporary issues related to migration.

The Journal of Dialogue on Migration Dynamics (JDMD) also publishes book and article reviews, short communications that have clear connections to the contemporary migration dynamics. However, unless otherwise, the need for the book and article reviews including the short communications are found to be relevant and convincing to the editor-in-chief, due weight will be given to research articles (empirical and non-empirical types).

Objectives

The basic aims of the journal are:

  • To create a platform for researchers, academicians, professional, practitioners and students to impart and share knowledge in the area of migration dynamics in Africa and beyond.
  • To further, through publication, the Institutes’ and University’s objective of advancing learning and knowledge transfer;
  • To bridge the prevailing research gaps in the areas of contemporary migration dynamics in the horn of Africa and the continent at large;

Scope of the Journal

The Journal publishes contributions in the form of scholarly research articles, book reviews, commentaries, discussions and debates related to migration dynamics on Africa and beyond.  Thus, the journal covers, but not restricted to, the following thematic areas;

  • Irregular migration;
  • International Migration dynamics;
  • Migration and Health;
  • Mixed migration and human trafficking;
  • The nexus between migration and Development;
  • Migration and Urbanization;
  • Climate change and Migration;
  • Communication technologies and Migration dynamics;
  • Deportation of migrants and reintegration
  • Internally Displaced People (IDPs)
  • Asylum seekers and Refugees
  • Refugee-host community relationship
  • Development-induced displacement and resettlement

Language of Publication

The Journal accepts and publishes contributions primarily written in English and/ or any of the Ethiopian languages.

Frequency of Publication

JDMD is a biannual peer reviewed journal that focuses on the global contemporary migration dynamics. The journal publishes research articles, commentaries and book reviews twice a year with a mix of regular and special theme issues.
