About the Journal

The Journal of the Drylands is a peer-reviewed journal, published bi-annually by Mekelle University. The Journal of the Drylands publishes: Original research articles, Integrative scientific and development researches, reviewed articles,  feature articles,  short communications, book reviews, letter to editors from arid and semiarid regions, addressing Agriculture, Natural Resources, Pastoralism, Biotechnology, Food Sciences, Geography, Geology, Pedology, Hydrology, Biology, Ecology, Climate and Climate Change, Land Degradation, Soil and Water Conservation, Land Use Policy Environmental Monitoring and Management.

COPYRIGHT POLICY

The Journal of the Drylands accepts manuscripts for consideration on the understanding that the manuscript has not been published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. By submitting their work, authors agree to assign copyright ownership to Mekelle University Office of the Research and Publication in the event that the work is published in the Journal of the Drylands. Original articles will be considered for publication if they have been published previously as short abstracts, but not as extended abstracts (> 1000 words). This applies to both electronic and paper publications. Submitted manuscripts must be accompanied by a copyright release statement signed by all authors. A Copyright Release form can be obtained from Mekelle University Office of the Research and Publication. Authors may use the form provided or incorporate the same wording into a cover letter. Faxed copies of the form are acceptable. Multiple copies of the form, each with an individual author’s signature, are also acceptable.

 

AUTHORSHIP POLICY

The Journal has a Policy on Authorship for Manuscripts Submitted to the Journal of the Drylands. The policy is that ‘authorship credit should be based only on:

  • Substantial contributions to conception and design, or acquisition of data or analysis and interpretation of data;
  • Drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; 
  • Final approval of the version to be published.

 

Acquisition of funding, the collection of data, or general supervision of the research group, by themselves, do not justify authorship’. Each author of all multiple authored manuscripts published in the Journal of the Drylands will be required to confirm in writing, prior to publication of the manuscript, that he or she satisfies the Journal criteria for authorship. Authors have to submit Statement of Authorship to the Managing Editor of the Journal.
