Abstract

Spontaneous heterotopic pregnancy is a rare life-threatening clinical entity in which intrauterine and extra uterine pregnancies occur at the same time. A high index of suspicion can help in timely diagnosis and appropriate intervention. We present a case of a 35-year-old multigravida lady who was referred to our emergency outpatient department with a diagnosis of ruptured ectopic pregnancy. A transabdominal ultrasound assessment led to the diagnosis of heterotopic pregnancy. Immediate surgical intervention with supportive measures resulted in successful outcomes. A high index of suspicion is needed while dealing with pregnant females who have free fluid with or without an adnexal mass with an intrauterine gestation.
